An Approach to Raúl Roa García's Pedagogical Thought as a Social Educator (Review)

Abstract

This article aims to characterize Raúl Roa García's pedagogical thought through a study of his life and revolutionary activity, encompassing his period as a university professor and social educator, as well as his political and governmental responsibility. The article clarifies the historical foundations of his ideas on education, from the reception of Martí's thought to his extensive background as a student involved in national processes beginning in the 1920s, when he assumed a youthful leadership role in the anti-Machado struggle. From an integrative approach to understanding epistemic foundations, this article offers a renewed perspective on the systematizing inquiry into the referents and assumptions that justify the practice of social pedagogy in the Minister of Foreign Affairs' modes of action as the architect of the Cuban Revolution's diplomacy. Through a theoretical study that applies content analysis, based on the key consideration of the relationship between instruction, education, and development, it clarifies his teaching role as a university professor of the History of Social Doctrines. The article concludes by highlighting the importance of studying Raúl Roa's pedagogical thought as a resource for training Social Sciences graduates as competent and committed professionals in a strategic area of ​​the Cuban socialist social project.
