This research addresses the aspects of Chinese emigration in Manzanillo and the impact of this process on the ethnic component, and on the economic, social and cultural development of the city. The Asian immigration developed over a long-lasting period. Its incidence on the commercial growth is reflected in the quality and services provided. This article aims to characterize the Chinese presence in Manzanillo during the 19th and 20th centuries, to establish the uniqueness of their contributions to culture, economic and social life and national historical processes at that stage. Its results are expected to be of value in terms of historiographic information and pedagogical potentials, by recognizing the Cuban identity process and its formation in the locality. The study is part of a doctoral research paper on the Asian immigrations in the region of Guacanayabo during the indicated period.
