Energetic basis for the cultivation of Cucumis sativus L. (cucumber) under protected conditions

The research was carried out in the Collective Agricultural and Livestock Collective Based Business Unit Protected Crops, belonging to the Paquito Rosales Benítez Agricultural and Livestock Enterprise, located in Veguitas, Yara municipality, Granma province. The objective of the study was to carry out an energetic basis of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) cultivation in Fluvisol, during the period 2023 in the above mentioned unit. The variables determined were: direct and indirect energy use, input and output per unit area, energy ratio and net energy efficiency of the crop, as well as carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere. The main results showed that direct energy use amounted to 3 338,4 MJ ha-1, with 83,9 % associated with the use of human power, which represented 49,0 % of the activities related to cultural services, while indirect energy use had a behavior of 1 372,5 MJ ha-1. The ratio showed a value of 7,1 and energy efficiency of 6,1, classified as excellent, and the same behavior was reported when considering carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere. The crop reached a production volume of 2,3 t with an income of 46 000,0 CUP, for a profit of 37 682,98 CUP.
