Abstract

The Jipijapa canton, located in the province of Manabí, Ecuador, has a rich history and has experienced several important milestones in its cultural, educational and urban development. Economic history is closely linked to social history, and vice versa. One cannot be explained without the other. The objective of the study was to identify the ethnocultural landscapes of the Jipijapa canton. The methodology applied was documentary design and the type of study is explanatory and bibliographic. The results demonstrated that Jipijapa has great historical, symbolic, architectural and landscape aesthetic importance, making it necessary to comply with the necessary mechanisms for its recovery and conservation. In addition, it has great historical and cultural value, although it needs the implementation of urban improvement strategies and heritage buildings, which consider integrating physical, spatial, social and cultural spaces, it also has a rich tradition of customs, beliefs, myths, legends and rituals that reflect its vibrant cultural heritage.  In conclusion, the tangible and intangible heritage of the Jipijapa canton, such as the production of the world-famous toquilla straw hats, the artisan traditions, and the rich cultural festivities, together with its diverse indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorian heritage, make up an invaluable treasure that not only defines the identity and pride of its inhabitants, but also enhances economic development through tourism and crafts, while its preservation and promotion ensure the continuity and valorization of this cultural legacy for future generations.
