Abstract

The implementation of renal replacement therapy poses complex bioethical dilemmas that require careful consideration. The article aims to present the main results of a literature review on bioethical principles in the implementation of renal replacement therapy. The fundamental principles of autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence and justice in the treatment of advanced chronic kidney disease were examined using the analytic-synthetic theoretical method. The review addressed key aspects such as the shared decision-making process, the impact on quality of life, cultural and socioeconomic considerations, as well as ethical challenges in resource allocation. The results underscore the importance of a patient-centered approach that balances clinical considerations with individual values and preferences; furthermore, significant gaps in the practical implementation of bioethical principles were identified, especially in resource-limited settings. The results of this review contribute significantly to improving ethical decision making in renal replacement therapy; they also highlight areas for future research and policy development in the field of nephrologic bioethics.
