The main priority of genetic services in Cuba rests on the basis of community genetics. In order to characterize the incidence of pregnancy interruptions due to congenital malformations in the municipality of Yara during the period 2017-2022, a descriptive cross-sectional study was performed. The universe was made up of the 54 pregnant women who were interrupted due to this cause, coinciding with the sample. As a result of the study, the year with the highest incidence was 2020; the 15-19 age group stood out; the largest number of interruptions were made in the second trimester of pregnancy with 37 cases, 29 belonged to the health area Luis Enrique de la Paz. All patients received genetic counseling before terminating their pregnancy. The risk factors associated with the malformation with greater incidence were adolescent maternal age, family history of congenital malformations and smoking. The most common types of malformations were those affecting the central nervous system and chromosomopathies. The research is important because congenital malformations constitute one of the first three causes of death in the newborn, thus affecting the Maternal and Child Programme.
