Active learning: impact on the communicative competence in the English language of university students (Original).

The present research focused on exploring the impact of active learning on the communicative competence in English of university students, addressing a growing need in the contemporary educational context. The main objective was to evaluate the use of strategies such as problem based learning, cooperative learning, and project-based learning influence the development of key language skills. To achieve this objective, a quasi-experimental design was used, allowing progress in communicative competence to be compared between students exposed to active learning and those in a traditional teaching environment. Standardized tests were administered before and after the intervention, along with qualitative methods such as interviews and focus groups to capture perceptions and experiences. The main result revealed a significant increase in verbal fluency and English expression ability among students who participated in active learning activities. This finding marks the effectiveness of active learning strategies to improve fundamental communication skills. It is concluded that the research confirms that active learning not only promotes deeper and more meaningful learning, but also prepares students to successfully face academic and professional challenges in a globalized environment. These results emphasize the importance of integrating innovative methodologies in higher education to enhance the comprehensive development of essential competencies in the English language.
