Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disease that affects millions of people and is closely linked to oxidative stress. This study explores how oxidative stress contributes to the development of Alzheimer's disease in Latin America and Europe, considering regional differences in the research and management of the disease. The object of the study is based on analyzing the epidemiology and its implications of oxidative stress causing Alzheimer's disease in Latin American and European countries. Likewise, the research methodology applied was of documentary design and the type of study was explanatory and bibliographic. The results show that the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease is higher in women than in men in Latin America and Europe, with rates between 55.6% and 66% for women and lower for men. Mortality is also higher in women in most of the countries reviewed, although some data, such as those from the National Institute of Statistics in Spain, indicate a slight predominance in men. Oxidative stress is identified as a crucial factor in the progression of Alzheimer's disease, accelerating the formation of beta-amyloid plaques, promoting brain inflammation and causing mitochondrial dysfunction. Concluding research reveals that Alzheimer's disproportionately affects women because oxidative stress plays a central role in disease progression, driving beta-amyloid plaque formation and neurodegeneration. These findings highlight the need for therapeutic approaches focused on oxidative stress and the consideration of gender factors in the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's disease.
