Risk factors and prevention of Alzheimer's in Latin America and Europe (Original)

Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disease that affects a large part of the elderly population in the world. It is characterized by a progressive loss of memory and other cognitive functions. Aging, low educational level and unhealthy habits contribute to this problem. To face is necessary to implement prevention strategies such as a healthy lifestyle and cognitive and social stimulation. The purpose of the study was to identify risk factors and preventive measures in Alzheimer's disease in Latin American and European countries. The methodology used consisted of a documentary design study and the type of study was explanatory and bibliographic. The results determined that Alzheimer's disease represents a growing problem in Latin America and Europe due to the aging of the population; this is considered an important and non-modifiable risk factor. This factor, together with the genetic component and added to an unhealthy lifestyle, contributes to the development of this disease. To face this issue, it is vital to implement prevention strategies, including adopting a healthy lifestyle, physical activity and social interaction. It is concluded that Alzheimer's disease is a common disease in both Latin American and European countries; risk factors, including advanced age, alcohol and tobacco consumption, are evident.
