Sedentary lifestyles and overweight in adolescents are linked to a significant increase in the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases. Globally, lack of physical activity and bad eating habits contribute to the increase of these health problems, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Studies in regions such as Ecuador and Manabí highlight the urgent need for preventive measures to reduce the incidence of these diseases in young people. The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between sedentary lifestyles and overweight as risk factors for the development of type 2 diabetes in adolescents at a global level. The methodology employed consisted of a documentary research design and the type of study was explanatory and bibliographic. The results showed that type 2 diabetes in adolescents is increasing globally due to obesity, sedentary lifestyle and genetic factors, which lead to serious complications. In countries such as Mexico and Ecuador the prevalence is high, with 50% of adolescents with diabetes and obesity in Mexico and a possible increase of 175% in Ecuador. It is concluded that the increase in type 2 diabetes in adolescents is attributed to sedentary lifestyles and overweight, which generate insulin resistance and severe complications. To face this situation, it is crucial to adopt prevention strategies that promote active and healthy lifestyles, as well as early detection to improve the quality of life and mitigate the overall impact of the disease.
