Importance of academic honesty in student life (Original).

Academic honesty is fundamental in student life because it fosters an environment of trust and mutual respect, where personal effort and merit are recognized and valued, and it encourages us to learn genuinely, face challenges with courage, and be responsible for our action, thus contributing to the development of a solid and ethical academic community. The purpose of the study was to establish the importance of academic honesty in student life. A documentary design methodology was applied and the type of study is explanatory and bibliographic. The results showed that the lack of honesty in student life has a significant and negative academic impact. When students resort to dishonest practices, such as plagiarism or exam cheating, they deprive themselves of a true education and the development of critical skills, affecting their ability to meet future challenges. Additionally, academic dishonesty erodes trust between students and faculty, distorts evaluations, and diminishes the value of academic credentials. It concludes with the importance of implementing training measures that promote the development and importance of academic honesty such as education in ethics, the promotion of critical thinking, and clarity in standards and expectations, creating an environment where honesty is the norm, which strengthens the personal development of students and the credibility of educational institutions.
