The article is a reflection on the development of reading comprehension in the students of Primary Education through the use of children's stories, created by the authors and the application of activities related to them; with the aim of contributing to the development of reading comprehension in Spanish Language classes, to achieve a professional future with communicative competence. The application of the communicative approach in the Mother Tongue is a challenge facing Cuban education, in the search for a scientific solution for the professional, social and humanistic development of the university student, where it is essential to achieve a comprehensive general culture to provide answers to the demands of current Higher Education.
