Improvement of Environmental Education in the Educational System as Public Policy in Cuba

This article comprises a synthetic analysis of the expression of the environmental dimension in the curriculum by the different subsystems of the National Education System, from the analysis of the model, the objectives, the contents, the textbooks and the existing guidelines, to arrive at the regularities of the diagnosis of the environmental content of the current curriculum in the Cuban school, and to determine its potentialities to address contemporary environmental problems, as part of Environmental Education for Sustainable Development, an essential task of improvement. The Guiding Ideas are established as starting criteria for the improvement of all the subsystems, as a result of a process of systematization of the main lines that allow reorienting Environmental Education towards Sustainable Development from the guidelines established by international and national organizations and on all the educational practice of teachers from different educational subsystems, as well as research carried out by the Cuban teaching profession, expressed in master's and doctoral theses. With all this, progress is being made in the introduction of scientific results for the teachings, expressed in the documents in preparation for those educational levels, books, programs and methodological guidelines. The fundamental objective of this presentation is to distribute the guiding ideas and main conceptions that are considered in the improvement processes of Environmental Education for Sustainable Development for all Cuban educational subsystems, as part of the introduction of a scientific result that expresses a public policy prioritized in Cuba
