Treatment of mathematical problem solving in the fifth grade of primary level

The scientific and methodological preparation of teachers for the integration of activity systems, derived from the results of research conducted at the Frank País García primary school, in the municipality of Niquero, favored the development of mathematical problem-solving in fifth-grade students, which was supported by methodological work. The article proposed a methodological strategy for addressing mathematical problem-solving in the teaching-learning process of the Mathematics subject in the fifth grade of the primary level. This strategy was developed based on the sociocultural research paradigm and the dialectical-materialist conception of knowledge, where the historical-logical, analytical-synthetic, and inductive-deductive theoretical methods guided the research. The techniques used for the analysis were the survey and the interview. The strategy provided activities to develop mathematical problem-solving aimed at schoolchildren and was contextualized with an operational character, as its actions were developed in an integrated manner based on the very processes that took place in the school. The strategy enables the scientific and methodological preparation of teachers for the introduction of the results into educational practice, which favors mathematical problem-solving in the students.
