Physical activity to reduce blood glucose and improve quality of life in diabetic older adults (Original)

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that has a high incidence in the world population by manifesting multiple risk factors that influence its appearance and its compensation heavily influence moderate-intensity physical activities. For this reason, the objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of physical exercise, to modify blood glucose figures in practitioners studied with Diabetes Mellitus type 2 of the Siboney People’s Council in Bayamo municipality. A pre-experiment is carried out with the elaboration and application of a plan of physical-therapeutic activities, to reduce glycemia and improve the physical condition oriented to health. The universe consisted of 32 diabetic elderly and the sample of 10 diabetic type 2. An initial survey was applied characterizing the study group and knowledge on the practice of physical exercises. Indicators such as body mass index, aerobic resistance, adaptation to effort were evaluated. The main results were that a high percentage of older adults controlled their glycemic numbers with physical activities; the indicators evaluated finally improve positively in practitioners; the Body Mass Index is improved; the tests of Ruffier and Ruffier - Dickson after performing the physical exercises were evaluated very well and good resistance, respectively and all were compensated for their basic pathology.
