While running the PIAL III project in the municipality of Jiguaní, 4 demonstrative farmsteads were created to execute good agricultural practices and work in the participative genetic improvement at the territory. At the farmstead of Xiomara Oliva Galardy, cooperative member, located in the CCS Abrahán Martínez in the municipality, the behavior of 7 varieties of cassava (Selection 1, CMC 40, Pilonera, Yoya, Y 93-4, Guatemalteca and Filetera ) in drought conditions was evaluated. The best behavior was found in Y 93-4 variety followed by Yoya and CMC 40 varieties. Pilonera variety did not sprout correctly in drought conditions. The fairs of seeds become, for their design, a sociocultural activity that favors the exchange of experiences and the rescue of the seed, species and varieties adapted to local conditions and to the preferences of agricultural people and their families, which contributes to strengthen the farmer production and to achieve sovereignty and alimentary security.
