Abstract

The article explores the guiding role of the philosophy of education within the theoretical foundations of educational theory. It explains the philosophical position that will be present in every curricular design and reveals that education takes place through the formation of subjectivity from the objective, and the formation of individuality from the social, as well as through the conceptualization of what man is and what place he occupies in society, which will allow defining the model of person to be formed, the model of education and the model of school. In addition, it is valued how the functions of the philosophy of education allow to establish the pedagogical, psychological and sociological foundations and to provide a conception of life and of the ideal to be achieved. The philosophy of education makes it possible to establish the philosophical foundations of the pedagogical theory that sustains the teaching-learning process. It also serves as a basis for the sociological and psychological foundations of this process.
