The present research was oriented to the realization of a diagnosis about the formation of the research competence of Sociocultural Management for Development undergraduate degree students, since it is considered of great importance for their professional performance. The research competences aim at the training of committed professionals, with extensive knowledge, skills and attitudes to undertake projects and research programs to solve social relevance context problems, which cause changes and innovations that are congruent with the historical moment, based on a critical, systemic, open, thoughtful and creative thinking. From the phenomenological study carried out in the second, third, and fourth years, methods of theoretical level (Historical-logical, Structural systemic -functional, Analysis-synthesis and Induction-deduction) were used. As main techniques of information collection the questionnaire to the students and the analysis of coursework and work practice documents were used. The results of the diagnosis, from the elucidation of the information obtained by these techniques, found that the training of professional skills in all the years of the undergraduate degree shows limitations, in particular with the professional research competence, so necessary for an efficient performance in the pre-professional practice they carryout in diverse sociocultural contexts, hence the need to take actions aimed at the formation and development of this professional competence.
