Abstract

Strains of Vibrio sp were isolated from ponds in preparation for the sowing of shrimp postlarvae Litopenaeus vannamei, in the shrimp farm of the South Coast of Granma (Calisur). The water samples were taken before and after the application of molasses, in them total Vibrio levels were observed in the order of 102. The positive sucrose Vibrio (yellow colonies) predominated with respect to the negative sucrose Vibrio (green colonies). For the evaluation of the antimicrobial activity was used the Bauer-Kirby disc diffusion agar method with modifications. The molasses not showed antibacterial activity against Vibrio sp, although the stains were sensitive to gentamicin and extremely sensitive to ciprofloxacin, antibiotics used to counteract bacterial infections in shrimp farms.
