Abstract

The environmental protection and the progressive consumption of energy resources constitute two significant topics for the current world, likewise, for the immediate future, that is why, the searching of renewable energetic resources means a scientific and technical challenge that should be faced urgently  nowadays. For these reasons, the present work makes a conductive study to determine the potentialities of power generation from the production of biogas generated from the excrement of the bovine and porcine cattle in the municipality of Manzanillo in Granma province. Firstly, the necessary data were gathered, and the potentialities for the production of biogas were determined. Later, the quantity of electricity able to generate that manufactured biogas was also determined, and finally, the quantity of biofertilizer derived from the digested, the emission of greenhouse gas that would not be produced due to the lack of generation of this power, and the amount of petroleum that the country would not consume with this renewable technology were calculated.  As a result of the study it was stated that it was possible to get a total of 9834,8 m3of biogas daily, and from the byproducts of this process at about  184,37 m3 of liquid biofertilizer and 68,84 t of solid biofertilizer could be produced, 59,01 MW·h/day of electric power can be generated, and to avoid emitting to the atmosphere 54,14 t of carbon dioxide, 135,72 kg of sulfur dioxide and 70,81 kg of nitrogen dioxide, what means that 18,74 tep were not consume daily.
