Effect of plyometric training on combat sports attack

The objective of this narrative review was to present some studies of plyometric training that improved punching and kicking in some combat sports. Studies were selected from Google Scholar during July and August, 2025. In two articles about the boxing punch, in the first study after 8 weeks of plyometrics the fighters increased the impact force of the punch by 25% and the control group by 5%. In the 2nd study, after 8 weeks of plyometrics the boxers increased the strength of the jab (pre-test of 6.7 g-force, and post-test of 7.3 g-force), and the cross (pre-test of 10.1 g-force, and post-test of 10.5 g-force). Plyometrics can be used as post-activation potentiation. Karatekas performed plyometrics of 5 tuck jumps, after of 5 minutes of rest, the fighters practiced ushiro geri, and increased the impact force of the kick through post-activation potentiation (pre-test of 533.55 Newtons per second, post-test of 562.41 N/s, 2nd post-test of 533.82 N/s, and 3rd post-test of 555.37 N/s). The review explained that after 6 weeks of plyometrics occurred an increase in the quantity of karate mawashi geri (pre-test of 21.16, and post-test of 24.4), and an increase in the impact force of taekwon-do (dolyo tchagui with pre-test of 32.9 g power, and post-test of 40.5 g power). In conclusion, plyometrics is a special strength preparation that deserves to be practiced in most combat sports.
