The Information Society and its Influence on the Knowledge Society (Original)

Abstract

The objective of this article is to determine how the information society influences the consolidation of the knowledge society, considering the links, opportunities and challenges between both. To do this, a bibliographic review methodology was used, based on the critical analysis of theoretical and empirical sources related to the topic. This approach allowed us to identify the main conceptual contributions to the information society and its evolution towards a knowledge society. The results obtained indicate that the information society, although fundamental for massive access to data and technological resources, does not by itself guarantee the generation of applicable knowledge. The positive impact of this transition depends on factors such as closing the digital divide, training in critical skills for information management, and developing inclusive environments that promote innovation and learning. Likewise, it is highlighted that the knowledge society transforms information into useful knowledge and promotes sustainable development based on education and well-being. It is concluded that, to consolidate the influence of the information society in the knowledge society, it is essential to implement strategies that combine equitable access to information and communication technologies (ICT) with the comprehensive training of individuals, thus guaranteeing balanced progress.
