Teaching English in university contexts faces challenges related to students' motivation and active participation. This research examined student-centered pedagogical approaches to improve language acquisition in non-English speaking universities. The main objective was to identify effective strategies that enhance autonomous and communicative learning. A mixed methodology was used, combining student and teacher surveys with classroom observations. The research was carried out by applying techniques such as learning based on the use of pop music for linguistic activities and interactive digital platforms. The main result indicated a significant increase in communication skills, especially in oral expression, by incorporating participatory and contextualized dynamics. Students reported greater confidence and satisfaction with their learning. The main conclusion highlights those student-centered approaches, such as collaborative learning and the use of current cultural resources, are key to overcoming traditional barriers in English teaching. This study highlights the need to redesign teaching strategies based on the needs and preferences of students to achieve a more effective and contextualized language education.
