Effectiveness of 5% propolis tincture in the treatment of alveolitis in the municipality of Jiguaní (Original)

Dental extraction is a common procedure in dental practice, related to alveolitis, a frequent and multifactorial complication. The aim of this article is to evaluate the effectiveness of 5% propolis tincture in achieving faster healing and total restitution, with less discomfort, of the damaged tissues in patients diagnosed with alveolitis. A quasi-experimental study was carried out at the Edor de los Reyes Polyclinic in Jiguaní, Granma province, between October 2021 and October 2022. The sample consisted of 62 patients diagnosed with alveolitis who attended the stomatological emergency services. Data were obtained by clinical observation and collection of information through the previous questionnaire with informed consent. The main variables evaluated were age, sex, type of alveolitis and the clinical evolution of the treatment according to the planned days. The main results were that female sex predominated and the age group that prevailed was from 30 to 39 years old for 32,3 %. Wet alveolitis reached 61,3% in group I and 51,6% in group II. A great improvement was observed in the patients from the first day of evolution, mainly in group I. The 5% propolis tincture proved to be effective in the treatment of alveolitis in the population studied, achieving cure in a shorter time in relation to the treatment of the other groups.
