Abstract

The work was carried out in the town of Punta de Piedra belonging to the Ecological Reserve "El Macío" of the municipality of Pilón in the Province of Granma. The objective was to project the forest management of the coastal vegetation of this locality, for which a characterization of the vegetation was made, the factors that influence the degradation were identified and the forest management of the area was proposed. The study revealed the existence of 2 types of forest formations, Uveral and Mangrove Swamp, the latter being the area that occupies the most area, affecting the degree of impact on the resources of this coastal ecosystem, for the various uses to which they are subjected, being the factors that most affect the degradation of this ecosystem, atmospheric phenomena, illegal logging, poor management of the entities involved, reduced channeling in the mangrove areas, as well as the high levels of salinization present in the area reaching 76 ppm in season 2. On the other hand, the geomorphological changes, changes in the dynamics of opening and closing of the mouth of the channels, as well as the erosion in the coastline that has brought about a modification in the mangrove vegetation. Therefore, the proposed management plan should be aimed at rehabilitating the plant formations of the area, relating silvicultural and environmental education actions that contribute to the mitigation of climate change, by promoting the care and proper use of these formations.
