D. TOMÁS BALDUINO: PEASANTRY IN THE GOIÁS DIOCESE – 1967-90 (Review)

Abstract

The work in development aims to trace a trajectory on the struggle of the peasants of Brazil for Agrarian Reform, so necessary and so far removed from the peasants' desires that they take their livelihood from the land, and they are denied the right to appropriate this production, which must be divided with the bosses or owners of the land many times, not staying with the farmer who is exploited in a way analogous to slave labor. Our work proposal is based on concrete facts that occurred in the Diocese of Goiás, from 1968 to 1990, when an unequal struggle was started, based on the ideas of a prelate who is named bishop of this diocese and completely changes religious mysticism based on the documents of the Second Vatican Council, reinforced by the documents of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM), held in Medellin, Colombia from August 24 to September 6, 1968, determining that the Catholic Church should be concerned with evangelization and defense of the poorest and marginalized by society, who suffered from the dictatorship implanted in the Cone countries. South seeking to carry an evangelical message that would rescue the dignity of the oppressed by the dominators and keepers of the great capital. To better illustrate our work, we will use as theoretical reference Poletto (2008), Pessoa (1999) Amado (1996) Pinheiro (1999) PolettoOrg (2002), Moreira (2008), seeking other sources that can contribute to reinforce our source and enrich it in the search that guided the struggle of a Prelate of a Church and of the faithful who take the teachings of the Gospel and transport them to their daily lives, living intensely such teachings.
