ABSTRACT
The knowledge of the issues that contributed to the transformations of the Brazilian territory over the last five centuries is of fundamental importance for those who are dedicated to the study of Geographical Science. However, developing such an understanding, understanding the particularities and nuances that characterize and distinguish their different moments (formation, advances and perspectives) isn't a simple task. In this sense, based on Professor Milton Santos - and in his conception that all space is endowed with a historicity - the present work proposes a chronological collection for the several moments that contributed to the evolution of the brazilian territory. Thus, interpreting the different interests imposed by the european powers to, then, Brazil colony ("Pau Brasil", Sugarcane, Mining, Extensive Livestock), as well as the various activities and "public policies" developed by Governments in the Post-Independence period (Getúlio Vargas, Juscelino Kubitschek, Militarismo, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, dentre outros), the current research seeks to establish where are the origins of the current conjuncture of the national territory, as well as their prospects for possible advances or setbacks.
