The practice of chess and its educational influence on intellectually disabled students with mild functioning (Original)

The objective of this article is to contribute to the development of adaptive skills in students with intellectual disabilities with mild functioning from the practice of chess, due to the limitations that they have in the discrimination of the information they receive from the external environment, which will significantly influence in their social adaptation. From this perspective, a system of activities was implemented that used the basic elements of this discipline as a distinctive feature; The selected sample was made up of 9 students who are in the second cycle of the special school "José Luis Tassende de las Muñecas" in the Florida municipality in the province of Camagüey and who make up the chess sports enrollment. Investigative methods such as documentary analysis was used in the present investigation; analysis and synthesis; induction and deduction; observation, survey, interview, as well as statistical mathematics (Mcnemar and Chi square test). The results obtained show the validity of the activities implemented for the development of adaptive skills in intellectually disabled students with mild functioning.
