Health is a fundamental aspect in people's lives, and is determined by the care they take of themselves and others, by decision-making and control over their own life. In this sense, oral health is an integral part of general health, since an individual cannot be considered completely healthy if there is an active presence of oral disease. Therefore, it is important to know the oral health situation of the population in order to identify, prioritize and solve health problems in the communities. To do this, a critical analysis of the socio-historical, cultural and socio-demographic components of the population must be described and carried out, as well as the personal, family and community risks to identify their interrelationships and explain the damage to health as a result of this process. It is an essential topic in the training of stomatologists and other health sector professionals in charge of dental care; For this, it is important to use the clinical, epidemiological and social method in which active participation and intersectorality represent fundamental pillars.
