Abstract

In spite of the fact that listening is an important and complex part of the Spanish as a foreign language teaching process, several researchers consider that this skill has been neglected in class, assuming it will develop instinctively or that it will be used to introduce other skills. The professors’ limited preparation and the need of methodological contributions in the matter, that favor a constant update on the topic, are some of the reasons why this phenomenon has taken place. Consequently, the present research analyses the main existing studies about listening strategies, pointing out how they should be developed, exploring their different categories and contributions. Furthermore, it refers to proposed suggestions, which update SFL teachers on the matter, to develop proficient listeners, thus, speakers.
