The professionalization of the teaching of Mathematics in Higher Education. Experiences in Cuba and Ecuador (Original)

Abstract

Education is one of the strategic objectives of the contemporary world for any society, this idea is essential to understand, in relation to Higher Education, the necessary transformations that must be assumed, so that the mission of the university really responds to the challenges imposed on it by contemporary society in this new century; in particular, in the case of mathematics, the study of mathematics cannot be started in universities, without considering the social context and the social project in which the pedagogical process of the professionals in training is developed. Reason for which, it is essential to look for alternatives to improve the teaching of Mathematics in the universities, the present research is directed in this sense, when investigating the essential characteristics of the process of professionalization of the teaching of Mathematics. The results of the application of several instruments are presented, so that they allow knowing the regularities in this process, in two majors with different profiles and from different countries.
