Educational intervention to reduce child abuse (Original).

Abstract

A quasi-experimental study was conducted, of the educational intervention subtype, without randomization, with pretest and posttest (a related sample) with the objective of evaluating and identifying the degree of knowledge presented by parents and/or guardians on the practice of child abuse of children under 5 years of age in the Villa Blanca health area, of the Policlínico Docente Dr. Faustino Pérez Hernández, Buey Arriba, Granma, in the period from September 2019 to March 2020. Parents who practice some type of violence towards minors were identified. Factors such as alcohol consumption and unemployment constitute part of the fundamental causes that propitiate this behavior. Physical and psychological abuse are the most common manifestations of violence. It was found that, regardless of the existence of risk factors, ignorance of this problem also contributes to the prevalence of child abuse; however, actions such as those carried out in this study can have a very positive impact on the solution and reduction of this scourge.
