Abstract

Introduction: The dynamic rebound index (DRI) proposed by Dr. José Acero allows evaluating stretch‑shortening cycle (SSC) efficiency by considering drop height and contact time. Objective: To assess DRI in 7 forwards from the Holguín senior basketball team. Method: A drop jump from 30 cm was performed, recording jump height (cm) and contact time (s). DRI = (drop height + jump height) / (9.8 × t²) and RSI = jump height / t were calculated. Results: Mean DRI was 0.248 ± 0.011 (range 0.235–0.265), while mean RSI was 0.727 ± 0.029 m/s. Discussion: Forwards show a significantly lower DRI than defenders from the same team (0.309), due to much longer contact times (mean 0.521 s) which cancel out their higher jump height. DRI reveals that SSC efficiency is critical for forwards, where quick rebounding ability is essential. Conclusions: Specific training to reduce contact time in forwards is recommended, prioritizing tendon stiffness and short‑rebound plyometrics, as well as using DRI as a positional monitoring tool.
