Abstract

The article focuses its attention on the development of cognitive motivation in the teaching-learning process of the subject English Linguistic Studies I (Phonetics), which is a problem affecting the initial training of the English teachers at the University of Granma, Cuba. It makes reference to the main foundations that this type of motivation involves, as well as the limitations that hinder a more efficient and effective learning of the English phonetic component in the above mentioned process on the part of the training teachers. Also, it provides a didactic strategy supported by pedagogical, psychological, and linguistic referents so as to contribute to the development of cognitive motivation towards the phonetic contents of the English language.
