The lexical Competence in the English Language Learning as a Foreign Language. (Essay)

Abstract

The term competence, despite its extensive use and recognition from the Pedagogical Sciences, has had different meanings and it is the subject of various interpretations based on the dissimilar epistemological positions of researches. In the composition, some of the proposal made in the last decade were evaluated by different authors in the formation of competencies. In this sense, the acquisition of the vocabulary becomes very important in the learning of any language, since the possession of an adequate repertoire will allow students to master the vocabulary with greater confidence in a given context. The integrative nature of lexical competence in the appropriation and construction of lexical knowledge and in the assimilation of the preceding historical-cultural experience is recognized.  During the development of learning the English language, several methodologies have been adopted with the primary purpose of promoting a better learning process in the student, in which achieve effectively the essential objective of learning the language, which is to use it in communicative situations.
