The study of family carers of elderly has become relevant in recent decades, as a result of sociodemographic changes associated with the accelerated aging of thepopulation. Despite of its historical existence, the care of older adults today reveals specificities generated by the cultural practices of the context, typifyingthe way of life of the carers according to the sense and meaning of the carried out work, especially if it is dealing with a family member with dementia. Based on these fundamentals, the present research is designed to characterize the socio-demographic profile of the family carers of elderly people with dementia, residents in Los Cocos community in the municipality of Guisa, a space considered suitable for the analysis, as certain municipal data reveal the increase of the number of elderly people with dementia assisted mostly by women.The study shows the sociodemographic profile of this emergent population group (sex, age, level of schooling, marital status, employment status and type of family and kinship)guiding behaviors, attitudes, assessments that influence the dynamics of the care that is offered and the quality of life of the carers in that community context.
