The purpose of this research is to raise awareness among teachers about the importance of problem-based learning (PBL) in relation to the methodology applied in the mathematics, it allows logical mathematical skills development and abstract thinking, considering that the prior knowledge of the student is based on the context and the types of experiences that he / she has, thus achieving that the students understand the theoretical and practical contents in a relational way. This research was developed applying the bibliographic research method carried out in journals such as Redalyc, Scielo, Latindex, among others, jointly in national and international universities repositories. The information obtained served to confirm the need to propose a new learning methodology in mathematics, contributing that students develop their skills and abilities, especially critical thinking, making the student the center of learning, allowing them to solve in an autonomous way their challenges that arise in real-life situations, through the construction and application of knowledge, providing to the student tools and necessary strategies to organize and build their learning process.
