Abstract

The Cuban experience with the study of reserves has been insufficient so far. As has happened with the national growth and development studies carried out by the former Children's Institute, since the 1970s it has not been possible to develop research that concludes with references for the assessment of the sports reserve within the framework of control and evaluation of sports training in the morphofunctional area. The objective of this research consists of the design of reference values of body composition indicators of the athletic population of the province of Granma in the school category. For the research, existing data from the period 2011-2020 was collected in the database of the provincial sports medicine center, which was evaluated by certified anthropometrists. The number of individuals in the databases amounted to 15,131 subjects, 8,377 males and 6,754 females, respectively. They came from 37 sports disciplines. To complete the general objective, weight, height, as well as the subscapular, triceps, supraspinal, abdominal, thigh and calf panicles were taken from the recorded data. The percentiles were obtained to evaluate the adiposity/leanness of the sports population for each category and sports groupings. Procedures were also obtained to evaluate athletes within the framework of biomedical control of preparation, respecting the spectrum of human variability. The procedure constitutes the first contribution to the monitoring of school athletes in the Granma province.
