Abstract

The formation of human values ​​has been one of the aspects prioritized by the Cuban higher education system. The career of Hydraulic Engineering of the Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas, Cuba; has developed a systemic conception of education based on values; however there are no studies that analyze its effectiveness or behavior. The objective of the study was: to examine the correspondence between the values ​​present in the study plan of the Hydraulic Engineering career and those possessed by the first and third year students of this specialty. The study was classified as descriptive with a quantitative approach. Methods at the theoretical and empirical levels were used to obtain results. At the theoretical level, the inductive deductive, synthetic analytical and structural systemic approach was applied. At the empirical level, the documentary analysis, the survey and the mathematical statistical methods were used. The techniques applied were the percentage analysis, the questionnaire and the document review. A statistical analysis was carried out that showed the patterns and trends around behavior in the formation of values ​​of the specialty under study. It is concluded that students have honesty, responsibility, respect, being studious, solidarity, friendship and companionship as their main values. The study carried out showed certain ignorance on the part of the students of the values ​​contained in the curriculum of their specialty.
