The development of the speaking skill in fifth graders

Abstract

Learning to speak English is essential in today's world, as it is one of the most spoken and used languages in areas such as business, education, and international communication. Mastering English opens doors to job opportunities, facilitates access to information and online resources, and allows interaction with people from diverse cultures. To develop the four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—it is important to adopt new strategies that focus more on speaking skills, employing different methods of practice in daily life. Despite the importance of English, there are several challenges in its learning, such as a lack of resources, lack of motivation and attitude, an emphasis on certain skills while neglecting others, inequality in access, and inadequate training of teachers. To address these issues, it is necessary to implement strategies and approaches that target the different areas for improvement. This article suggests various activities to enhance and improve the speaking skills of students at Dalcio Gutierrez Primary School in the municipality of Bartolomé Masó.
