Abstract

The transformation and degradation of both urban and rural landscapes is taking place in many parts of the planet in an accelerated way, very often, at the cost of the values, they contain, whether they are environmental, heritage, aesthetic, symbolic or economic. The loss of aesthetic values and therefore, the visual quality of the landscape is what ends up impoverishing and trivializing them. Citizen participation studies for the restoration of landscape visual quality show a gradual increase, considering this approach the present contribution was developed. The actions carried out to achieve these objectives are the creation of participatory programs and agreements, where people participate directly and indirectly, in restoration actions or issuing criteria. The research addresses the state of the art on citizen participation, landscape studies, visual landscape, visual quality and landscape restoration. In addition, allusion to the relationship between citizen participation and landscape it is made. Finally, are shown experiences on the restoration of the visual quality of the landscape.
