Abstract

The development of flexibility in pubertal Taekwondo athletes requires structured training programs that consider progressive load and physiological characteristics of growth. However, in formative contexts, non-periodized routines are frequently applied, limiting neuromuscular adaptation and training effectiveness. The aim of this study was to design and theoretically support a progressive intervention model for flexibility development in Taekwondo athletes aged 11–13 years, and to validate its applicability in a real sports environment. A quantitative approach with a longitudinal pre-experimental design was adopted. The model was structured into five progressive phases over 15 weeks, incorporating principles of progressive overload, specificity, and individualization. Practical validation was conducted through pre- and post-intervention assessments using the Wells and Dillon Sit-and-Reach Test. Results showed an average improvement of 0.79 cm in flexibility, with statistically significant differences (p = .008), supporting the feasibility and effectiveness of the designed model. It is concluded that the program represents a structured, replicable, and adaptable methodological proposal for formative combat sports settings, grounded in physiological and training principles.
