Abstract

Sports talent is not defined by a single ability, but by interrelation and complementation, involving comprehensive analysis and assessments. In Baseball, despite having updated athlete preparation programs and established parameters for sports selection, the indicators that allow an objective selection to fulfill specialized functions continue to be deficient, which constitutes an aspect of essential importance in competitive performance contemporary. However, in the process of forming the teams to participate in national championships, there are deficiencies that limit the quality of their scope; the general objective is to propose indicators for the selection process of the starting pitcher in the formation of high-performance baseball teams, on the Isle of Youth; being selected a sample composed of: 11 baseball pitchers from the youth category of the Isla de la Juventud that represents 52.38% of the population, of which eight are rights that represent 72.72% and three are left-handed that represent 27.27%, in addition to four coaches who represent 19.04% and 6 specialists who represent 28.57% of the population. The research methods used were observation, review of normative documents that govern the sports selection process in baseball, the survey of coaches and the criteria of specialists; allowing to identify the inexistence of a tool that guides the work of the sports teacher in relation to the selection of starting pitchers.
