Type of animal production by species in Tombe Gâteau, Fondwa, Léogâne, Haïti

The Tenth Communal Section of Léogâne, Haiti, specifically Tombe Gâteau, is located on both sides of the highway, 3 km downhill from the town of Tombe Gâteau. The objective of this study is to identify the breeds present, the type of production per species, and the health aspects of the livestock ranch in Tombe Gâteau, Fondwa, Léogâne, Haiti. A zootechnical inventory and a study of production types were conducted. An estimate of the number of cattle in this area is presented (to be adjusted based on actual observations). Mortality and its main causes were evaluated. The main species that predominate in the region are cattle, goats, pigs, and poultry, raised for meat production. Pigs are raised for meat and fat production; poultry for egg production. The most common causes of mortality are parasitic and infectious. Improvement measures include: environmental and habitat protection; strengthening sanitary conditions (zero epidemics); improved nutrition and genetics; technical support and structuring; and producer training.
