Abstract

The work was conducted on the UEB Multiplicador Valenzuela of the Granma Swine Enterprise, with the objective of to determine the effect of inclusion of Spiruvet on the starter food over some indicators of growing pigs. 40 animals divided in groups of 10 were used. Treatment I pigs consumed starter food only, while treatments II, III and IV consumed Spiruvet at 1, 3 and 5% respectively. On 13, 26, 35 and 45 days of experimentation determinations of body weight were conducted for evaluation of DWI. At start and ending of the experiment Hb, total leucocytes, glycaemia and cholesterol were determined. Data was analized by simple ANOVA using Duncan test. Results shows that the animals of group IV get the better final weights and DWI, there is no variations on values of Hb and total leucocytes, but a tendency to decrease in glycaemia and cholesterol was observed. The better behavior was found for the group consuming 5% of the product and a reduction in levels of glycaemia and cholesterol was demonstrated. It is concluded that the inclusion of powder of Espirulina platensis in growing pigs is biologically and economically factible.
