Estimation of the yield of the species Swietenia macrophylla King in the nursery "El Júcaro" (Original)

Abstract

In the present work, the aim is to apply practical-professional skills and scientific research that contribute to the sustainable development of forest resources, with emphasis on forests. In order to comply with the proposed objective, a bibliographic review of the species Swietenia macrophylla King was carried out, which is of great importance in the economic sector due to the value of its wood. As a result of this review, essential elements of its taxonomic and botanical location, measures for the conservation of the species, its use, main pests and diseases were analyzed. In addition, the survey of a 100 m2 plot was carried out, in the “El Júcaro nursery, where the possible dasometric measurements were made (diameter, height, basal area, width of the crown for each tree and for the forest mass ), making the corresponding calculations to determine the different dasometric parameters, estimation of the average annual increases in height, diameter, basal area, volume, among other relevant elements. The knowledge acquired contributes to the formation of a capable Forest Engineer, and to systematize the skills developed in the investigation of academic, labor, and investigative processes.
