The work was based on the studies carried out by the Center for Research on Longevity, Aging and Health in the Elderly which constitutes the Center of National Reference for the Development of Gerontology and Geriatrics, for the research on these topics and plays a leading role in the formation and preparation of the human resources devoted to the assistance of the elderly. It is shown how this situation influences upon the workers at Celia Sánchez Manduley Faculty of Medical Sciences and it is explained the need to strengthen social programs by the Ministry of Public Health, and by the University managers to identify the problems and make appropriate use of the resources available in order to satisfy the workers’ needs and promote concrete actions favoring their physical, emotional and spiritual training and the search for solutions that contribute to understand the role to be played either amidst this process or functioning as carer. It is our goal to assess the steps to be taken to assimilate a culture that promotes the confrontation of these challenges within the work staff of our institution capable of overcoming the very contradictions this process brings about.
