Behavior of hypertensive retinopathy in patients over 60 years of age in the municipality of Jiguaní

The article describes the behavior of hypertensive retinopathy in patients over 60 years of age who attended the Ophthalmology department of the "Edor de los Reyes Martínez Áreas" Polyclinic in the municipality of Jiguaní. The study population consisted of 98 patients, with a sample of 56 patients with arterial hypertension. An observational, descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted. Data were collected from the charge sheet and the medical record of each patient. The results show that fundus alterations predominate in female patients aged 72 and over. The most frequently found funduscopic alterations at the time of the study were increased light reflex, generalized arteriolar narrowing, and the presence of pathological arteriovenous crossings. Furthermore, it was found that 30 patients were in grade II of the disease, demonstrating the largest number in this group, while no patients were identified in grade IV.
