Abstract

The little sustainable use of the forest caused an investigation to be carried out in the Santa Tomasa "Colón" community belonging to the Guise municipality, Granma province, with the aim of making an inventory of the species that grow in the place and investigate its potential for use. For this, the surrounding flora was identified by conducting a bibliographic search in order to characterize it, the species were grouped into five categories of use; likewise, the woods of the woody species of arboreal size were characterized. As a result, it was obtained that the flora associated with the area is represented by 363 individuals of 52 species and 49 genera, belonging to 38 botanical families. The inhabitants of this town extract species from the forest to be used for medicinal and religious purposes; furthermore, they use jaguars, guano, and palmiche. Likewise, most of the woody tree species found have very heavy, durable and hard woods.
