The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of a structured Pilates-based exercise program on reducing sedentary behavior among students of the Sports Pedagogy program in Ecuador. The research followed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of students enrolled in the program, who completed the Sedentary Behaviour Questionnaire (SBQ) to assess time spent in sedentary activities before and after the intervention.
The Pilates program was implemented over three months, with two weekly sessions focused on core strengthening, postural improvement, joint mobility, and deep muscle activation. Results showed that, in the pretest, 100% of participants exhibited high levels of sedentary behavior, averaging 11.5 hours per day. After the intervention, a significant reduction was observed, with an average of 5.5 hours per day, corresponding to a moderate level.
Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences between pretest and posttest (p < 0.001), with a very large effect size, demonstrating the effectiveness of the program. In conclusion, the Pilates method represents a viable and effective strategy to reduce sedentary behavior among Sports Pedagogy students, fostering active and healthy lifestyles that enhance their professional and personal development.
